How to Use a Social Media Dashboard

Whether it’s Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Seesmic or any of the other fantastic social media time-saving and integrating dashboards out there you need to know how to use them to your advantage.

Why we love social media dashboards

Well, who wouldn’t really?! They’re time-effective, simple and usually free (or very low-cost if you wish to take them to the next level).

  1. You can use your dashboard on the go – Most have their own apps meaning your social media can be managed on the go, rather than being tied to your desk.
  2. Pre-Schedule your updates – this saves you time and makes sure that even if you have a day “off” from your technology your social media will act as if you haven’t (perfect for the busy business person in us all!)
  3. Automatically create links to blogs – with Hootsuite (and several other tools) you can link blogs to your social media so they automatically go out. No more trying to find the link and posting it to all of your profiles!
  4. Filter the noise – use the streams for your lists, keyword searches and mentions so you no longer see miss the people you regularly engage with. Perfect for keeping those relationships blossoming.

Whether you use it to “filter the noise” by using streams that show just your lists, keywords and mentions or if you use them for a more time-effective use such as scheduling, the social media dashboard can be your key to ensuring you achieve your social media dreams in one place.

Which social media dashboard do you use to ensure your social media success?

I find Hoot suite to be efficient for presetting tweets and use the Dashboard of WordPress to set posts for auto publishing.  Everything has a use but the one thing I dislike about web based is the latency difference between the different dashes.

I use Hootsuite, and can’t imagine getting by without it. I’ve tried most of the most popular, and it’s by far my favorite. That having been said – the biggest frustration (for those of us who utilize a large number of SM networks) is the limited number of networks that are offered for automation on these  dashboards.
